The Complete Oil Refining Solution
Edible Oil Refinery: We are making Batch and Continuous process refineries for Edible Oil. Both types require mainly three steps of Unit Operation called Neutralization, Bleaching, and Deodorization.
In addition to it, some oils like palm and rice bran oil requires additional step called Fractionation. Generally, selection of batch vs. continuous depends on capacity of Edible Oil Refinery.
The Sequence of the Edible Oil Refinery Plant Processes
Each step of refining removes undesirable substances from the oil. Neutralization removes Free Fatty Acids, Bleaching reduces oil colour and removes residual impurities from the neutral oil, while Deodorization removes low molecular weight substances responsible for undesirable flavour.
Basic Steps of Vegetable Oil Refinery
Step 1 β Neutralization: Can be performed by two methods β Physical and Chemical. In chemical process, sodium hydroxide (alkali) removes Free Fatty Acids, generating soap-stock as a by-product. In physical refining, low boiling point FFAs are distilled off at high temperature under high vacuum, producing fatty acids as by-products.
Step 2 β Bleaching: Performed under vacuum using bleaching earth and carbon as adsorbents to adsorb colour bodies from the oil. Once complete, spent earth and carbon are filtered off via Filter Press or Pressure Leaf Filter to obtain a low-colour, clear oil.
Step 3 β Deodorization: Performed at ~250Β°C under high vacuum by sparging steam through the oil to distil off low molecular weight substances. The oil is then cooled by incoming cold oil followed by chilled water circulation in a cooling vessel.
Process & Information β Vegetable Cooking Oil Mill & Refinery
The refinery operates through a few basic processes for refining edible oil. Neutralization is the first operation in Neutralizer Machines. Under agitation, Alkali Reaction at 60Β°C removes Free Fatty Acids (FFA). Soap stock by-products are allowed to settle and are collected in soap pans.
Bleaching takes neutralized oil where it is bleached with bleaching earth or carbon. Thermic fluid coils heat the oil up to 110Β°C. Bleaching is performed under vacuum with slow stirring. Bleached oil is filtered with Press Filters or PLF to remove spent chemicals.
The oil temperature is then raised to 180β200Β°C. Live steam is extracted from the deodorizer's steam nozzles under high vacuum β this eliminates the oil's odour. A cooler vessel with water-circulating coils removes heat. Final filtration by Polish Filter or Press Filter gives a more transparent and clear refined oil.
Why Shradhha Refineries? Our refineries achieve FFA levels below 0.05%, zero colour retention with a lovibond value under 2Y/0.2R, and complete elimination of off-odour β all with total oil loss under 0.5%.
